There are places trapped among our most cherished memories, leaving an indelible mark on our emotions, our instincts, and our intellect. At sixty, I can effortlessly recreate those mornings, with the sun just peeking over and the dew still dampening everything, when, with a small cup of coffee in my stomach, I would wander barefoot through the humid, fertile earth that nourished the Caribbean jungle. It was a unique experience, one that, thanks to its deep connection to my very being, I can now recreate on this canvas. It wasn't the beauty of the place that shaped my memories, but rather the impact of every detail on my inner world. Today, I can reproduce, remaining true only to my inner self, without adhering to any preconceived notions, images that only I can identify with the places I've traveled, and to redesign with a new finish those faces that greeted me in the morning. My memory was nourished by all that rich outside world that surrounded me, and that impressed my senses first and my reasoning later. There is no perfection in my strokes or my forms, but there is an indissoluble communion between what left an indelible mark on myself, and what I reproduce in this work because of its impact on the deepest part of my being. And it is in those moments of artistic creation, when I pour out my inner world to create, with brushstrokes, symbols, images, and multiforms, all integrated into a composition that, beyond imposing itself through the beauty and perfection of the external world, stands out for faithfully representing all the twists and turns, the intricacies, the individuality, and the intimacies of my inner world.
