Bio: I was born in November 1936 in Sant Petersburg (former Leningrad), Russia; graduated the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1960) in mechanical engineering; received Ph.D. in physics and mechanics of polymers ((1973); emigrated in the USA (1978); worked at research centers of two major American corporations. l аm living now in New Jersy. I am co-author of over forty scientific publications and seven American patents.
Statement: Photography has been my creative pursuit for most of my life, long before photography became digital. In photography, I am inspired by different forms of visual arts, especially painting and sculpture.
My main interests in photography are photo impressionism and photo abstractionism, as well as other directions, such as life, people, and nature.
In my impressionism work, I try to capture a scene's impression or momentary effect, such as a moment after the sun goes down. I am interested in the magic and mystery found in events like night rain, snow, or heavy fog.
When an object is not recognizable in abstract images, our mind has more opportunities to go directly to emotions and wonder. I am interested in emotions resulting from a creative process full of mystery and very subjective. My emotional association with my images, as reflected in the titles, could be very different from that of my viewers, but the image can still engage a response from a broad audience.
I am presently a member of the Princeton Photography Club. I use the Sony RX10IV with 25X zoom camera and Photoshop Elements.
