Juried Exhibition "Landscape Through My Eyes" as Different Ways of Seeing the World

 

A landscape is never simply what we see. It can be a real place, a memory, an emotion, a state of mind, or even a space that exists only in the imagination. Starting from this idea, the juried exhibition “Landscape Through My Eyes,” presented by People & Paintings Gallery and curated by artist Geanina M. Zaharia, brought together works exploring different ways of seeing, interpreting, and transforming the landscape through art.

The exhibition was the 43rd juried art exhibition in the People & Paintings Gallery program and presented a diverse selection of contemporary artistic perspectives. Following the jurying process, 22 artworks were selected for the exhibition, offering a varied exploration of the relationship between artists and the landscapes they choose to represent.

The selected works approach the theme from different directions. Some remain close to the observation of nature and the physical world, while others transform the landscape through memory, emotion, imagination, or personal experience. Through painting, photography, and other artistic approaches, each artist creates a distinct visual interpretation of what a landscape can mean.

For curator Geanina M. Zaharia, this diversity of perspectives is an essential part of the artistic experience. As an artist and curator, she is interested in bringing together different sensitivities and encouraging artists to transform what they see into a personal form of expression. As she explains, her aim is to “promote talented artists, of all ages and styles, to spread beauty.”

This perspective resonates naturally with the theme of the exhibition. If a landscape can be viewed in countless ways, each artwork becomes an invitation to discover another world. A familiar place can become something entirely different through painting or photography, while an imagined landscape can carry the same emotional intensity as a real one.

In this sense, “Landscape Through My Eyes” does not offer a single definition of landscape. Instead, it brings together different perspectives and personal interpretations, showing that what we see is inseparable from the way we look at it — shaped by experience, sensitivity, memory, and imagination.

At the end of the exhibition, three awards were presented, recognizing three artists through distinct award categories:

🏆 Gallery Award — $100 to “Golden Field” — Cosmina M. Oltean

🏆 Curator’s Award — $100 to “Winter Day. Monastery Island.” — Alexander Kusenko

🏆 Popular Vote Award — $50 to “Caribbean Jungle Memories Full of Light, Life and Colors” — Zaplaflora
