This is Where I'm From

About this artwork

This artwork shows my origin how my life started and where it is going. I was born in Hirosaki City, Aomori prefecture in Japan. “Aomori” literally means “Blue Forest”. I was raised in the city where is surrounded by lots of nature such as deep forests with trees in mountains, a blue sky with millions of stars, and 3 side of different oceans. I remember my childhood moments - touched mountain and sea natures physically, and felt/thought/imagined the meaning of each moment mentally. In this piece, I used the materials from my origin country - Japanese Handmade KOZO mulberry paper and black Sumi-ink. The background blue colors represents both a night sky and a blue ocean in my home place where a full of beautiful shining stars high up there and precious oceans reflected by a blue sky. The one stroke black Sumi-ink line represents my life path. It starts from the middle on the left, the starting point is the moment when I was born. Then my life passage goes slowly to the right, curbing around, sometimes life has an up and down, some strong moment and delicate fading moment, but it holds persistently going forward towards to the sky top, which is the future. The funny fact is that I was born as a left handed, but my mother corrected me as a right handed. After all, I discovered myself that I prefer using my left for art creating because I feel free and natural compared to the right which I make things so precise and academically correct. If someone wanted to question why the line started from the left, this might be the answer. I installed LED light behind the background of Mulberry paper, as if the stars shine for a life.
