In a society that values strength, vulnerability is seen as a weakness. Why give someone else so much power over you? Why lay yourself bare, knowing that you give them all the tools to hurt you, but naively trusting that they won't. Because vulnerability is also our greatest strength: it allows us to create bonds.
It can be tenuous, what keeps us together. And often, it feels like it could all collapse in an instant. I hope that my sculpture conveys this strength in fragility. How can those two thin jagged souls hold onto each other like that? How can they stand so precariously? Because they secretly found a balance in each other. They keep each other from collapsing.
In those difficult times, when we are not just kept apart figuratively but also literally, I hope that it can remind us that the first step to find a reprieve from this suffocating feeling of isolation is to embrace the very vulnerability that we are desperately trying to hide.
