Papa
About this artwork
“Papa”- This painting is a tribute to both my father and his father. My father, who passed away in 2019, left behind boxes of notebooks containing word lists that he compiled over the course of his life. His brain just worked that way. I consider it to be his form of art and those are his sketchbooks. I use his actual handwriting projected onto the canvas in areas of my paintings. The "word of the day" in this painting is SHIP. I chose this list because his father, my grandfather Papa, was a lover of tall ships. The weather vane depicted in the painting sat atop my art studio when I lived in Mattituck, NY. It had already been in place when I bought the house.
