Autobiographical Self Portrait
The work is a digital painting/collage - my idea was to provide the viewer with an alternative self-portrait in the form of an image that delivers a visual narrative via a series of images presented in 3 bands, each to be read from left to right, top left to bottom right... each pictorial element is a prompt to a time, place, event and/or memory.

I was born in the NE of England, My father was English my mother Dutch. I am pictured on my Dutch uncle's shoulders. I attended a grim 19th primary school... during my early years, I lived in a block of flats... I remember catching a stickleback in a park lake... I had a secret (imaginary) horse I hid behind our sofa. As a boy I made many drawings and paintings... I loved my YoYo... I used to love walking over the bridges that spanned the River Tyne, connecting my hometown of Gateshead to the much bigger Newcastle Upon Tyne. I supported the local football team... seeing them win a European competition in 1969 ... they haven't won anything of any note since. The artwork far left on the bottom row is called TODAY... another autobiographical work that includes references to several favourite artists of mine, a shadow of me with my eldest son on my shoulders, my wife as the Muse of Art, Holly - our only ever, much-loved dog. The remaining images are other examples of paintings I have made.
