This picture is a self-portrait, which shows my self-awareness during my Anorexia phase. Now that I have overcome this illness, I recognize my distorted view of myself at that time. I was the victim of an illusion that made my appearance seem different from what it really was.
The person's lips are worked out with blood-red candle wax. The wick nails that are melted into the candle wax indicate the inner pain of the eating disorder.
There is plastic yarn on the head of the person depicted, which should represent my thoughts revolving around the topic of food.
With backlighting, the painting changes a lot. The lighting shows the traces of wax in the image and cast shadows on the face of the person. thus the illusion is visualized.
