Spirit’s Fight
About this artwork
In this pandemic, I created this piece. Life and death is not as simple as black and white. In this large scale 50 x 80 inches black and white canvas painting, to express its complex depth of many aspects of life, such as dark, bright, shiny, dull, sparkling, heavy, neutral, subtle, bold and fragile, I made 14 original colors to have mixed with more than “65” different paints, inks and mediums. We’ve seen so many people got sick, struggling, losing jobs, isolated from family and friends- frustrated or depressed from uncertain situation. Since March 2020, I learned something very important. Something strongly striking my heart and mind, when I was talking on the phone with someone I know, who was fighting coronavirus in the hospital. He said, ”Keep on painting, keep on creating, you’ll make it, I truly believe you will. I keep fighting this virus, so you keep painting.” - That was the last words I heard from him. When I learned his passing, I felt a significant mission I have to carry over Artist’s spirit, as well as technique, expression, passion and energy. Those should be carried over by showing our voices to the next generation. In my latest work, “Japanese Spirit”, I expressed my soaring voice, I’ll keep on going. I’ll keep on going no matter how difficult this time will be. That’s my mission in my life as an artist. It’ll be grateful if you see my dialogue in it. This new work is dedicated to all the people who are suffering, were suffered from coronavirus, who survived or who lost their lives. I believe their spirit is forever. Stretched with a wire on the back. Ready to hang on a wall. (Not with an extra frame) Print with Mat ($80~) (size from 10x8~) also available.
