About this artwork
Painted to the opera La Traviata, by Giuseppe Verdi. I listened to operas by Verdi while I made this painting, painted in the streets of SoHo, NYC. This opera silenced the drilling noise of the construction site nearby, as a metaphor, this opera silenced the nuances of life, and that is what music does for me when I’m painting. This is a particularly positive opera, I had seen a scene of this opera online and was inspired by the colors I had seen as part of the performance.
