The straight lines of our modern urban landscape transform into the organic flames of our ancient history. Licking the cool air, cold stone portrays life giving heat; paramount to our survival as a species. Solid yet translucent, crackling bright white veins darken and opaque yellow glows with fire from within when backlit. This work is build on contradictions expressed in design, circumstance and molecular structure. Created from an amazing specimen of Honeycomb Calcite. Honeycomb calcite is indeed a challenging stone to work with, but when an artist listens to the stone, magic happens. The creation of this beautifully translucent flame was a true partnership between myself and the stone. Everyday I worked with the stone to honor its beauty, its strength, and its fragility. I am constantly amazed at the beauty the earth creates. 3-D dimensions are 19" side x 25" tall x 9" deep
