The Spirit of Truth was four years in the making. In the summer of 2018 the stone was used for my first professional photo shoot. I carved on it a bit, on and off, but the stone was not interested in being carved so I left it alone to ponder the seasons. Both the stone and I waited patiently for two years.
Then in 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic stopped the world in its tracks. I contracted Covid in those first few weeks and vowed that if I survived, I would take my stone carving table to the front yard and carve for my neighbor's entertainment. During the pandemic, I created Art Yard Shenanigans and used that platform to continue to teach art, math, problem solving and life skills. I carved and I taught, everyday, rain or shine. I created 2 works of art through this platform before this quiet and reluctant stone finally said, “It’s time.” As I carved it, it gave me it's name.
I brought it to the front yard and listened to it, carved it, learned from it, and continued to develop my unique style until once again it said “wait”. From the Autumn of 2020 till Autumn 2022, I waited. And in November of 2022 it spoke again. In a flurry of brain activity the design for its steel base came to me, and finally the stone allowed me to complete the sculpture.
It is The Spirit of Truth and it yearns to lift humanity to a higher plain.

NOTE: The Spirit of Truth is participating in an Art on Loan program with the city of Irving, Texas. It can be viewed at the Irving Art Center. It will be released from this program July 1st 2025. If interested in purchasing The Spirit of Truth, the purchase and delivery process will simple take a little bit longer than normal as we need to coordinate with the city of Irving.
