To a retired “old lady with cats,” day-to-day remembrances are often limited to interaction with my pets. Mallie is the Ambassador of my four cats, the one who reminds me during a “lost-to-the-world” art or writing session that it’s time to fulfill my responsibilities. When I’m in my creativity zone, nothing exists but what I’m creating. My pets’ needs bring me back to down-to-earth reality. For that I honor her in this painting. She is the one who remembers me as a “person” with multiple moods and earthly needs. I would forget that I am first and foremost a human being who needs to eat and sleep in order to create. Friends and family respect my “creative” time and won’t disturb me during such times. Mallie just wants to be fed. Ultimately, it’s because of Mallie’s memories of me as her “feeder” that I can become my human/artist self.
