Tombstones now standing askew marked the graves of people dead for centuries. Many folk enjoy visiting old cemeteries, imaging how people died. Maybe even distant relatives of these dead come to visit and remember the tales they were told about their ancestors. For me, as an artist, I saw the configuration of the headstones as an interesting compositional path leading to the focal point of the rustic wood door to the cathedral. I’m sure that was not in any one else’s mind when the graves were dug.
